This is what Teens should do after completing STAR Guides Therapy

Unfortunately, there is no ‘miracle cure’ to end the suffering of an adolescent trauma victim. The best chance of recovery they have is with the help of a therapy program like ours, and time. By learning the coping skills that our counselors and therapist teach, they can come to terms with their past trauma.

The biggest challenge for teens who complete our Wilderness therapy program is returning to their lives back home. They risk going back to the same patterns and routines that they followed before the therapy. Not only are the trauma victims at risk of this, teen porn and sex addicts also run the risk of slipping back into their old habits after completing their therapy. This is why it is important for parents of such kids to help them in their road to recovery, and the following points will help them in this regard:

Be Social

Taking part in ‘regular’ social activities can be very healthy for a teen that has just completed his/her therapy program. They can start off by reconnecting with their closest and most trustworthy friends, and in time, they will start doing normal teenage stuff.

Support

A support system can be a very valuable for a trauma victim, but at times, family and friends aren’t enough. Joining a trauma support group for adolescents in the community can be fruitful, because the teens will be around people who are experiencing the same things they are.

Routine

The teens have to set a routine for themselves, starting with a good night’s sleep- about 8 hours a night. They should incorporate small amounts of exercise into their routine and try to eat a healthy diet. Try eating foods that can help give your mood and body a boost.

No Alcohol or Drugs

Use of alcohol or drugs can bring back the depression and anxiety that was present in the teens before. So it is absolutely crucial that they stay away from any type of alcoholic drinks or addictive drugs.

Stress Reduction

The routine that we mentioned above should also contain ample time for you, but do avoid any self imposed isolation periods. In this time, the teens should try a hobby that makes them happy or maybe take an activity that will bring them joy. This is an effective to way to reduce the stress levels in their lives.

If your child is having trouble adjusting to life after the therapy, then call us (800.584.4629) and our staff will be able to advise you on the matter.
